Installation View, Shifting Communities, Bronx River Art Center, Bronx, NY 2011
Three interrelated projects explore informal territorial demarkations in and around the South Bronx. An 80 page printout archived from an online forum on the topic, “Are hipsters coming to the Bronx?” is on display in the gallery for visitors to read, and an invite to the show was posted on the online forum. Also on display are photographs documenting territorial graffiti (used to designate zones in the area controlled by different groups) found in the neighborhood. In addition, video taken in the nearby 138th subway station, showing a temporary employee break room on the platform is paired with a video shot near Yankee Stadium in which fans and locals face-off as they cross a street against each other.
