506 Hunts Point Ave, color photograph, 2011

Original photographs and a short video about the Bronx work of the Cuban-born, New York modernist painter Emilio Sanchez (1921 - 1999). Created in the late 1980s, his paintings depict storefronts in the South Bronx neighborhoods of Hunts Point and Mott Haven. Through interviews, original photographs from Sanchez's studio, and revisiting places that he painted, the video explores his personality and vision.

Commissioned by the Bronx Museum of the Arts for the exhibition Urban Archives: Emilio Sanchez and the Bronx.

Emilio Sanchez and the Bronx, 2011, duration: 9 minutes 7 seconds

"...the exhibition also features a specifically commissioned video work by the artist Laura Napier which uses Sanchez's photographs as a source of inspiration to capture the sense of time and transformation that she feels was part of Sanchez's artistic project. It posits a moving testament to inspiration across generations and media."

Recognized by the BRIO (Bronx Recognizes Its Own) Award, May 2013
